What changes in the UNNO MITH Race RS

The new MITH Race RS gives one of the market's most recognisable eMTBs a RockShox build: a ZEB fork and Vivid coil rear shock. The news is not another motor or an entirely different frame generation. It is an equipment alternative within the current MITH range, and should be understood that way before comparing prices or assuming the previous version is obsolete.

The combination is what makes it interesting. An Avinox-powered enduro platform, a coil shock and components chosen for demanding descents raise more useful questions than a collection of maximum figures: what adjustment options it offers, what adapting it to the rider costs and what is actually in the box. The Forged Carbon finish and red fork distinguish it visually, but do not prove performance.

This analysis separates confirmed specifications from our editorial assessment. We have not ridden this bike and do not attribute grip, noise, range or heat resistance to it that could only be verified by riding it.

Build, price and availability: the specification that matters

The UNNO's European product page lists the Race RS at EUR 9,995. When sizes S1, S2 and S3 were checked, the store showed no online availability. That does not prove every dealer is out of bikes, nor does it justify promising immediate delivery in Spain. Confirm the delivery time with the seller before paying a reservation deposit.

A realistic budget must include initial adaptation. If you need a different spring, a narrower handlebar or a tire suited to your terrain, that money counts as much as the shop discount. Request a written offer stating size, exact specification, charger, final assembly and delivery terms.

We would not use a marketing photograph as proof that the latest advertised component is exactly what will be delivered. The order specification and inspection when collecting the bike are the practical reference. This care is especially important for a version newly added to the catalogue.

Vivid Coil: why setup matters more than looks

The coil shock is the change most deserving attention. Looking robust or having a large reservoir is not enough. It must work with the frame's kinematics and the rider's actual weight, including helmet, protection, water and backpack. The wrong spring can force compensating adjustments that do not solve the underlying problem.

The documentation of RockShox Vivid Coil Ultimate describes damping adjustment and end-of-travel control through Adjustable Bottom Out. Distinguish their functions: the spring supports the load; damping controls movement; bottom-out adjustment acts near the end of the stroke. These are not three equivalent ways to make the shock firmer.

Our approach to initial setup would start with UNNO's specific recommendation and the shock manual, recording settings and changing one variable at a time. A familiar descent repeated at a cautious pace allows better comparison than a different route with different tire pressures. We do not give a universal click count: it depends on the tune, weight and terrain.

The product page for this version lists different springs by size. Size guides geometry but does not replace checking sag and spring rate. Two riders fitting the same size may need different setups. Ask whether the shop can make that adjustment before delivery and what an alternative spring would cost.

Frame, geometry and wheels: consider the whole bike

The MITH platform combines 170 mm front and 160 mm rear travel with mullet wheels. That defines a bike for demanding riding, not a lightweight trail bike merely because it uses carbon. Each wheel's diameter also affects your choice of tires and the spares you carry.

To choose a size, the useful question is where your body sits while pedalling and descending. Room to move over the bike, handlebar height and dropper clearance matter more than finding a reach figure similar to another brand's. We would not choose the larger size solely for stability: you also need to weight the front end and manoeuvre at low speed.

The visible carbon texture is part of the model's identity. A photograph cannot establish its impact tolerance or ease of repair. For enduro use, we would check protection, bearing access and warranty terms. After an impact, inspection must assess actual damage: a surface mark does not prove a break, nor does an absence of chipped paint guarantee integrity.

Wheels and tires complete the package. Changing a tire to save weight can affect descending confidence more than fine suspension adjustment. Assess casing, compound and pressure together, rather than automatically applying another bike's recommendation to this one.

Avinox M2S: here are 1,300 W peak, not 1,500

There is one detail that deserves to be made very clear: UNNO declares for Race RS with FS800 a maximum of 1,300 W. Stated torque is 130 Nm in regular modes and up to 150 Nm in Boost. The specification identifies the M2S motor with 250 W nominal power. These are different quantities and should not be converted into one another when comparing motors.

The official comparison of Avinox confirms the 1,300 W limit with FS800 or FS600. For a 1,500 W peak in Boost it specifies FP700 or RS800; for that figure in regular modes it requires FP700. We do not apply that claim to this UNNO. The installed combination matters more than the highest figure in an advertisement for the family.

What does that mean for the rider? Peak power alone does not describe delivery. On a narrow climb, what matters is how assistance follows your pedalling, how much control you have when reapplying force and whether you can hold your line without unexpected acceleration. These are aspects we want to check in a future test, not virtues established by this presentation.

An honest comparison with Bosch or another Avinox system should keep route, tires, pressure, weight, mode and conditions constant. Even then, ease of clearing a section must be distinguished from energy consumed. Climbing faster does not automatically mean going further. To understand the quantities without confusing them, we recommend our guide to Nm, peak watts and assistance.

Also ask the seller how updates are performed and who handles system faults. Connectivity is useful if it simplifies use; it does not replace knowing who diagnoses the bike and spare-parts lead times when a problem arises.

800 Wh and a charger that is not that of the conventional Race

The Race RS incorporates FS800 and a 4 A charger, with maximum 168 W announced. The Race listed on the other product page includes a 12 A, 508 W charger. This is a specific difference between builds, not a detail to assume from the platform name.

The practical consequence: we do not apply UNNO's advertised charging times for a fast-charger combination to the RS. Nor do we calculate a full charging time by dividing capacity by maximum power, because actual charging does not necessarily maintain that power from start to finish. Planning a second ride the same day requires knowing the time for the bike and charger actually supplied.

For range, we avoid a universal distance. Energy used per kilometre depends on elevation gain, surface, assistance, speed and rider input. Two routes of equal length can place very different demands on the electrical system. Responsible planning leaves a reserve and allows a return without relying on the last bar of the display.

Before arranging a trip, I would confirm how the battery is charged on the bike, access to a socket and storage instructions. I would not buy another charger simply because it appears to fit physically. Electrical compatibility and manufacturer approval must be explicit. At home, choose a suitable dry location and inspect the cable and connector before plugging in, following the manual.

Drivetrain, brakes and dropper: where to look beyond the motor

Drivetrain SRAM S1000 Eagle AXS of the UNNO MITH Race RS
SRAM S1000 Eagle AXS T-Type: an electronic drivetrain, not automatic shifting in itself. Photo: UNNO, press photo.

Electronic shifting does not eliminate wear. Assisted riding requires attention to cleaning, lubrication and consumable condition. Our buying advice is to check the cost of replacement components and local availability, rather than judging the derailleur only by its name or lack of a cable.

For brakes, useful testing begins with lever adjustment and the specified bedding-in for rotors and pads. Before seeking more power, get the system working correctly and your hands comfortable. We do not claim to have checked heat resistance on long descents: that requires measurement and real use, not just reading specifications.

The dropper must allow room to lower the saddle without compromising insertion. Checking maximum pedalling saddle height and how far the saddle actually drops helps avoid a purchase that fits the size chart but not your body. The OneUp V3 guide helps organise those checks without replacing the frame measurements.

Finally, I would ask which maintenance any workshop can carry out and which tasks require the brand's service centre. That distinction makes budgeting more realistic. An attractive build loses some value if the bike must later sit unused for a spare nobody locally can supply.

Our assessment: a build alternative worth considering

The Race RS makes sense for riders seeking the MITH platform who prefer to build their setup around RockShox and a coil spring. Its new features are clearly defined; no frame revolution needs inventing to make it interesting. What remains to check is how the whole bike performs on repeatable routes with a setup appropriate to the rider.

Before deciding, we would compare the final offer with the alternative Race, including the charger and shock adaptation. Then we would confirm size and delivery time. A shop test or demo bike gives more useful buying information than an abstract debate over which suspension logo is best.

Is it a new generation of motor?

We do not present it that way. The RS is interesting for its equipment; the stated system is Avinox M2S.

Does it include 508 W fast charging?

The RS product page checked lists a maximum of 168 W. We do not assume another build's charger is included.

Can we guarantee its range or availability?

No. Range requires riding context, and availability must be confirmed with the seller.
